"The Ascent Of Man" by Jacob Bronowski
"Connections" by James Burke
Everything by Shakespeare, James Clavell, John le Carre, Charles Dickens, James Burke, Alexandre Dumas, Thomas Jefferson, and pretty much anything and everything else - on every available subject - you can get your hands on!
Don’t forget to read some fairly tales:
Andrew Lang’s 12 book series (The Red Fairybook, Blue Fairybook, Orange, Pink, etc)…oh…word of caution…don’t buy the compiled version of all twelve books in one volume! Tiny tiny print - no wonderful illustrations, lousy table of contents…and what’s with the cover photo of a tree frog?!
Lewis Carroll’s "Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking-glass" Try to find the hardbound, annotated one illustratred by Sir John Tenniel!
This is, by no means, an exhaustive list! Libraries are amazing places!
